"What
we hear-and how we process it-has a far greater impact on our
daily living than we realize. From the womb to the moment we
die we are inescapably surrounded by sound, and what we hear
can either energize or deplete our nervous systems. It is no
exaggeration to say that what goes into our ears can harm us
or heal us."

Joshua
Leeds is a composer, producer, and sound researcher. He is one
of few published authorities in the exciting new field of psychoacoustics--the
study of the effects of music and sound on the human nervous system.
As creative director of Applied Music & Sound, Joshua collaborates
with leaders in health, psychology, productivity, and neurodevelopment.
Composer, Producer, and Recording Artist:
Joshua Leeds recordings include "The Listening Program" (8 CD
set), "The Sound Health Series" (6 CD set), "Sound Body, Sound
Mind: Music for Healing" and "Eight Meditations for Optimum Health"
with Andrew Weil, M.D., and "Songs of Affirmation" and "Gift of
the Present" with Louise L. Hay. Additional collaborators include
The Monroe Institute, Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, and brainwave biofeedback
expert, Anna Wise. From 1996-2000, Joshua served as co-producer
of Arcangelos, the critically-acclaimed psychoacoustic chamber
orchestra. Leeds is the author of The Power of Sound
(Healing Arts Press, 2001), Sonic Alchemy (InnerSong
Press, 1997), and editor of The Listening Program (ABT
Press, 1999). Numerous American and European magazine publications
include the peer-reviewed American Journal of Acupuncture, Open
Ear Journal, New Age Retailer, and Caduceus.
Researcher,
Networker, and Author:
Joshua is the author of numerous articles, and two books. In his
first book Sonic Alchemy: Conversations with Leading Sound
Practitioners, Joshua researched the inner components
of sound and the physiology of the ear/brain mechanism. As he
delved into the study of sound, he found there was no curriculum.
Consequently, he sought out his own teachers; women and men who
think, practice, and dwell in the bedrock of vibration and frequency.
The wealth of their ideas is presented in a dozen interviews.
Additionally, the rudiments of soundwork are explored. These include
resonance, entrainment, and sonicneuro technologies. The intention
of Sonic Alchemy is to trigger the imagination of
the reader, and encourage personal explorations into sound. Leeds
believes a quantum leap in the use of subtle energy modalities,
including sound, will take place through the advancement and synergy
of the methods discussed herein.
The second publication (a booklet and CD set) Sound Body/Sound
MInd: Music for Healing with Andrew Weil, MD., was produced
by Joshua and his colleague, Richard Lawrence. The Listening
Program (TLP) Produced by Joshua Leeds and Richard Lawrence
The Power of Sound: How to Manage Your Own Personal Soundscape
for Vital, Productive and Healthy Life, which was published
in 2001, explores music and sound as nutrients for the nervous
system, and the importance of healthy auditory function. He investigates
how noise- or stress-induced auditory dysfunction may result in
difficulties in learning, communication, and social interactions,
and explains new techniques designed to invigorate auditory skills.
The accompanying CD of psychoacoustically refined classical music
provides immediate examples of the benefits of music explained
in the book. Readers can experience the effects of a variety of
sounds and begin the life-enhancing design of their own soundscapes.
Educator
and Lecturer:
Joshua teaches musicians, healthcare and education professionals
internationally through lectures and workshops. He is the founder
of Sound-Remedies.com. He resides in Marin County, California.
